Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

I have 1.5 acres of land as my backyard. I wanted turn all of this into aquaponic, how would I do that?  I planned to have green houses.  I know I must first master aquaponic, but can this be done via learning from forums and websites, or should I take the initiative to take a course with experts like Green Powers.  I lived in the Metro Detroit area, and see a huge potential here.

And if this works, I do plan to extend onto my an additional 60 acres of spare lands.

We are gearing up TC, lots of great things have happened since we seen you.  Ready for a trip back up to MI?

Wish I had the time.  I'm barely gonna be around home long enough for the conference.  What little time I have available this fall I'll be busy with my systems.

Good Luck there though, sounds like you might have a few people that could be interested in seeing a new system go together.

I was giving you a hard time.... yeah, we have some people to help.  There are many in our community that are looking forward to helping and eating fresh produce this winter.

Oh I know you were.

But if you can advertize on here or garden web or whatever when you are planning a "aquaponics work day" you might be able to get even more people from around your area.  Just gotta have lots of projects and materials lined up that you can supervise easily while still letting others get their hands dirty.  Takes a lot of prep work but it can make for a fun party.

Sounds good to me!

Two Jay,

If you dont mind, can I come and visit your system, even volunteer to help for a day?  I from Metro Detroit area.

Thanks

Kou, more the merrier.  Most of the work will take place after the conference as we are still designing the system.  Up til the conference we will be finishing up some things on the GH itself and working in the dirt gardens.

Ellen and Kou, are you attending the conference?

I'm new to aquaponic, so have no idea about any conferences or any society.  The only one I'm aware of is the one Aquaponic Charter posted in here, but it appears to be in its infancy stage.  One thing I know for sure, after talking to Growing Power in WI, is I'll be there next spring.

When do you think, I can be there to visit your aquaponic farm?  I'm free mostly all weekends.

Kou, There is a conference in FL, Sept. 16th - 18th.

We too are in our infancy stage, currently we have a rough diagram of the system, pictures posted here, we are starting to build.  Regarding helping out on a weekend, Oct 1st may be the first weekend we have available for others to help on the system.  Hopefully by then we will be building tanks, grow beds etc.  Let's keep in touch!

My wife and I have been to Growing Power, and I would go back again, we have also been to Sweet Water Organics... make the effort to see both!

On the way around to Milwaukee you might want to get a look at We Grow Dreams west of Chicago.  Phillip Wolf, a member here facilitated that install.
TC, we should become legacy charter members of MI

LOL

I'm working very hard to get as many people along the I-75 corridor into Aquaponics as I can.
