Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Recently I replace the stock tank that housed my Tilapia to 2 IBC totes as I wanted tanks that could provide me the maximum gallons in the least amount of space and that were affordable. I already had experience of using an IBC tote as that is what houses my Channel Catfish so this change was not so revolutionary. What has however perked my interest in these IBC totes is their worldwide availability and use in Aquaponics. A good Aquapon friend, David Hart, is also going to be using 10 of them initially for his "Farm" project (follow his discussion for updates). Yesterday I received an e-mail from Backyard Aquaponics giving me a link to download of a manual covering the extensive use of IBC totes in Aquaponics.  You are welcome to download and become familiar with how Aquapons around the world have used these IBC totes. Perhaps you may be willing to share photos of your IBC totes so we can all learn from each other :-)

"It’s quite a large document at 187 pages with a high picture content, so the PDF file is big at about 38MB but you will only need to download it once.

We hope you find it of use, and if you do, please feel free to pass it on to others you think may be interested.

Many thanks, Joel Malcolm"

Here is one of the websites that sell the IBC tote heaters. Yes they are very expensive so that is why I have not used them. I will try to search for used or cheaper alternatives. Please share if you know of a cheaper source / alternative.

The BYAP IBC manual really is an extremely well done compilation, and a must have... not only those who might have existing systems... but for those just starting out, or thinking of doing so...

an aquarium shop will stock 300 watt heaters for around 30$.

$200 will buy a handfull, and do a similar job.
