My husband and I are conventional organic soil gardeners, we saw a Murray Hallam DVD recently and it really captured our imagination. As we are no longer teenagers (in body) the idea of incorporating the production of fish with vegetable gardening without all of the digging and weeding and bending etc sounded too good to be true. We have just (today) picked up our first kit a 1000L fish tank with one grow bed that we will expand to about 5 grow beds. We need all the help and information about getting started so this site seems to be the way to go. I think the preferred fish at this point in time will be the Silver Perch. We love our gardening so will not be giving up the soil.

Ah aquaponics is definitely a good addition to the garden, more diversity is always good.

Aren't Murray's videos great?  I was laughing about your comment about no longer being teenagers - boy can I relate!  I quoted you on our Facebook page today - hope you don't mind. You'll find that while most of us are very passionate about aquaponics, we generally keep (small) dirt gardens as well.  I use mine mostly for sub-terraneans (potatoes, onions, carrots, etc) and asparagus.

Welcome Maureen,

Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community!  I hope you find it a fun place to explore aquaponics.  There is a real blend of experienced and new aquapons in this community, so please don’t hesitate to get in there and start asking questions.  Everyone is quite happy to help out new members – no question is too basic.
