We are assembling an Aquaponic Science Project for our home schooled children. I am a former missionary educator in English & Computer science. When the local Honduran school teachers asked me "If there was one subject that was most important to teach their students, what would I teach." I said, "How to grow food to survive" They expected a much different answer, and Before I knew their area, I would have given a more technical answer. But growing food and gaining basic survival skills is of utmost importance and more than relevant in a rural village. They were losing their basic cultural & historical knowledge of survival. I invited the local agricultural school to participate for grade points in community service and all the elementary classes. They were thrilled to work in the soil. Now, with aquaponic technics I will be excited to show an even better & expanded way to maintain a home garden & fishery.
My hope is to develop enough skill in Aquaponics to teach (hands on) the basics to a few villagers to go out and make a difference. You know like"give a man a fish and he eats for a day, but teach him to fish and he east for life."
So, I have begun a new adventure & thank you for your warm welcome.
