Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Dear Aquaponics enthusiasts, I have  taken it upon myself to do my part in sorting out the financial crisis in Ireland. I strongly believe that it is possible to create employment from an commercial aquaponics setup. I have a background in hydroponics in Holland from my time there in the 1990's. I know how to do the plumbing but I am sure the more experienced members will know that plumbing skills are only a small percentage of getting things right.

After huge effort and considerable effort, I have gained the ear of a government minister in the republic of Ireland. This is the the minister responsible for innovation, I am lucky to have him based in my local constituency, I believe in the system, I am willing to put my money where my mouth is for a small commercial test project. The question is "am I dreaming or is it real".

I am here to find a way to move from Big Corporations to creative solutions.

There are number of key areas I am interested in assistance with.

1. A suitable fish for the northern hemisphere

2. Anyone In Ireland that has a working system

3. Anyone with a view or opinion on aquaponics

4. Any profitable commercial setups anywhere in the world that would be interested in talking to me about the pro's and cons of commercial aquaponics.

My mission is to provide myself and my family with clean healthy food and to make a living from it so I can share it with others.

I would also be interested in any views why I shouldn't do it.

Peace and love to all motivated free thinkers

Dave

Good luck Dave.  You might want to attend one of the training courses available by some of our members.  If that's not possible, read read read!  You might want to set up a smaller test system to show others that your idea would work and to help you work out the kinks.  Hope you can get it off the ground.

Thanks Rick, here in Ireland we are slave to the whip of big business and the IMF, self employment is one of the few avenues available to me. I am currently struggling with EU legislation designed to stop people like me getting a leg up in the world. I will keep you guys informed of my progress.

Kind regards

Dave

I wish you the best of luck.  My best advice is to be careful not to go into great debt, get as many friends and other people behind you for support. Starting any business in this world economy requires creative and cost effective measures. If this is your first time striking out on your own, dont give up, and work your butt off. You have to wear many "hats" when you start a new venture. I have been self employed for 15 years. I love working for myself and I wouldnt have it any other way. But it means many hours of work and many personal and familial sacrifices. You have to believe in yourself and what you are doing. Even when many others think you are out of your mind.  "Those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it."
