Hi, everyone. I grew up in Tokyo. Studied business in the States, and currently living in Hawaii. Let me know if any of you are doing something in Japan - I would love to be involved. I worked as a product developer/marketer for a global health supplement company that was based in Utah for 8 years. As one of the research projects I worked on, I was involved with urban farming and was intensely fascinated by the concept of Aquaponics!!! My wife's parents own an 11-acre farm and we decided to move back and live on the farm :)

That is really interesting about the Tsuribori... I had never considered those places before (I thought they were just sometimes outside restaurants in tourist places!) Could be an interesting idea though. If stocking densities aren't too high, and there is space for the vegetables then could be an interesting proposition!
Thanks for the link for the Daiwa project... I had seen this in the news... but the price!! Wow!! and the ongoing costs every year!! I cannot imagine that this is the way forward!!
There are certainly a few things going on in Japan for aquaponics... not much, but we are trying hard to change that! It is still very much in the earliest stages here..... almost nobody knows anything about it, but we are now speaking to everyone that we can and starting to see some interest. Please feel free to take a look at our site:
Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community! I hope you find it a fun place to explore aquaponics. There is a real blend of experienced and new aquapons in this community, so please don’t hesitate to get in there and start asking questions. Everyone is quite happy to help out new members – no question is too basic.
A great place to start is to read the “How to Use This Site” link on the upper right corner, “Start Here” section of the Home page. You might also find the “Aquaponic Gardening Rules of Thumb” guidelines helpful.
Please participate and check in with us every day! We are constantly posting news about aquaponics and the good food movement.
Normally Sylvia Bernstein, the community's founder, would be welcoming you, but she is vacationing in Japan and I am helping out by welcoming new members in her absence. I am certain she would be excited to have you join and she will be looking forward to getting to know you upon her return.
Thanks again for joining us, and I too look forward to getting to know you too. See you around the site!
