Hi Susie! We are living in Redlands, CA now. On the outskirts of LA. Nasty. We came here from Tuolumne City about 18 months ago to help my husband's mom get through hospice and pass without having to leave her home. We hope to relocate in / near Columbia, where my daughter manages a little organic farm. I've been researching how I could supplement my disability income and help them out too. The more I read about AP the more lovely it seems. I am disgusted about what I've been finding about our food sources and really want clean happy food. I'm also kinda freaked out about the economy and general world health. I think sustainability is very important. My sweetie is going back to school after being a carpenter for 30 years, and we're not even sure he'll be able to find employment. So, all in all, a little farm where we reap our own profits, live healthier, improve our planet, get to be close to the kids, & help shift the paradigm is just the coolest thing ever. Maybe we could even ditch the 40 hour 9-5. I've been furiously sketching and googling for quite a while now and hope to be ready to start a system when our obligations here are completed. I am also interested in helping develop sustainable community with the local farmers, enabling each other to have a little more flexibility. Maybe networks, co-ops, child/elder/disabled helping, getting together to barn/greenhouse) raise kinda networking. Reinvent the village.with internet.
Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community! I hope you find it a fun place to explore aquaponics. There is a real blend of experienced and new aquapons in this community, so please don’t hesitate to get in there and start asking questions. Everyone is quite happy to help out new members – no question is too basic.
A great place to start is to read the “How to Use This Site” link on the upper right corner, “Start Here” section of the Main page. You might also find the “Aquaponic Gardening Rules of Thumb” guidelines helpful.
Please participate and check in with us every day! We are constantly posting news about aquaponics and the good food movement.
Thanks again for joining us, and I look forward to getting to know you (hopefully at the May workshop!)
