Tilapia Breeder Florida

I would like to let you all know of an experience I had with a Tilapia seller.  I believe they are located near or in Orlando Florida, and I found them on the web.Since I have been having major problems with fish dying I fired off an email question. I got an excellent reply the next day along with an offer to ring him up.  I did just that and believe that he may have an answer for me.Regardless, his name is Ted and his company is Tilapia Spot.…See More

Fish dying? Also disappearing

Seems to be a number of fish problems this week, myself included. My system has been running since October and I have encountered all the normal problems a beginner can have, including a full scale algae bloom. I started with goldfish, cheap and easy to get.  Now I should say that the not so nice guy I bought Tilapia, from shipped them and most were dead.  However out of the two shipments of 80 combined, about 12 or so lived.  I did not know this until I got the bloom and had netted all the fish…See More

Hi Jim,
I'm just north of the

I'm 1 year into aquaponics with 50 sqft growbeds and 48 tilapia. I have learned a huge amount doing this.
Tilapia can't take big rapid shifts in temperature, PH, ammonia levels or dissolved oxygen.
High water temps (summer) removes dissolved oxygen. Low water temps (below 50f) kills bacteria that removes ammonia. Fish can't handle a ph shift of more than .2 in a 24 hour period.
Let me know if you want to come see my system. Maybe I can help you get things working.

John Doty :)
