I'm interested in setting up a new polyhouse over existing steel shed framework with tubular scaffolding that I have already. I'm looking for advice from anyone else in a similar position (ie very little money and little growing experience!) as to the best ways to get started or tips on sheeting this large area - best plastic to use etc. I will have about 13,800 sq ft under plastic when completed. I'm thinking of using a floating raft system over deep water tanks. Any advice would be greatly recieved or if there's an expert out there who would be interested in some consultancy work I'd be interested in chatting.

At least aquaponics can have some mitigating or moderating effect for growing many things. I've got cool weather crops still powering along into the heat in my systems right now.
LOL, I misread your profile as being Iceland oops duh
Yea, Ireland is much more mild. You will only need supplemental heating if you choose fish that can't take cool weather. Light may be more of an issue but it isn't as if you are in the North of Scotland or Iceland.
Well in aquaponics air and water temperatures are going to be closely related, though raft aquaponics gets less temperature fluctuation than media based aquaponics. Just seeing as you are in Iceland I though I should ask since it is a location rich in geothermal opportunities. During your long, cold, dark winters I expect it to be challenging to keep plants and fish warm and growing though it will depend a bit on the types of each though supplemental lighting and some heating will probably be needed even when growing cold water fish and cold weather crops at least through the cold part of winter there. Though I'm no expert on greenhouses and definitely not in your climate.
Good Luck with it, if I see any especially good ideas for you I'll send you a link.
Eamon, you might also find joining the Commercial Aquaponics group useful, given your interests, as well as the Greenhouse group (see Groups tab above).
