The 8 IBC's are timed flood and drain using a 4-way indexing valve (each pair of IBC's is treated as one zone). Yes, the water first goes through the media beds, raft, sump, then back to fish tank. The sump is in ground and holds 2,000 litres. The reason it's 'so large' is because during the cold winter months I plan on switching to a constant flood/constant pump scenario to avoid the heat loss (water) that would come with flood and drain under those conditions...

It was almost a year ago when you set the IBC's up.  Have you been growing anything in them?  Will they be Flood and Drain and will these troughs will they be Rafts?   Will you run the water into the IBC's and then into to rafts or are they each independent?  I'd like to see your sump tank too.
