In That picture I was running a 300 gallon tank waterfalling into a 600 gallon in ground that that did fluctuate a bit as the beds would flood and drain and I was definitely trying to get up tword a 2:1 raito of grow bed to fish tank but of course couldn't quite get there with fish being in the in ground tank.

How big of a fish tank do you have to supply the grow beds with? You have a huge grow bed area it looks like. Will look forward to the new pics. If you could do some close ups of the grow bed that the trees are actually in. I have been concerned with the grow bed holding up the trees. Thanks for sharing it with me.
Darn, the image info doesn't seem to come over with it. That papaya tree wasn't that old in that picture It was probably planted in the system as a 1 gallon seedling in 2008 sometime and it was probably only started in the pot fall of 2007. It grew tall fast and I had to push it over to an angle to keep it from pushing up through the shade cloth top. At some point, probably when we were going to put the plastic over we chopped the top off again.
You will find some later pictures some where when we transplanted it as the lumber/liner beds experienced termite trouble.
Soon I'll have to add the picture of it now full of heavy papaya fruits.
I've also got bananas growing in AP. One if fruiting right now and it was only transplanted this past spring but it is huge, they love AP.
My media is a mix of brown river rock and washed shells. I don't really recommend it as the shells keep the pH kinda high but the bananas love it anyway and the papaya does fine if you keep the system dosed with chelated Iron.
Plain 1/2" brown river rock is a better choice for media and that is what I'm using in my newer system.

I would love to find out more about your tree growing. How old is this tree now and what problems have you had with it? How old is your grow bed and what kind of substrate are you using? Are you currently growing any other trees? You have an interesting setup here. Thanks, Ken
