Ok. i was thinking of adding another bed too maybe that will help. I also though about putting gravel on top of the hydroton to stop it from floating and be dry, but if I do it the way you all suggest it will be a lot easier and less expensive too. thanks

Looks like you hava a good start.
I would plug the drain hole and drill small drain holes a couple inches lower. That should expose the top inch of grow media.
Yea, George is right, you need the top 2 inches of media above the water line. The media needs to be dry on top to prevent roots rotting, but sightly damp, enough to encourage seedling growth.
