This is my first sand system.

It's early on in the game here - growing season wise. We're having a very wet and somewhat cool spring so far. I've transplanted a couple of tomato plans and put in some green bean, basil, and edamame seeds. The green bean seeds are sprouting, and the tomatoes are doing well. Right now, I just have two fish in the tank. I'm waiting for it to warm up a little, and then I will put in 15-20 tilapia. I plan on putting in another tomato plant or two, as well as a straight squash and a cucumber. Who knows what else - depends on how much space I'll have left.

The cycling timing is going very well so far, but since there are only two fish in the system, that's to be expected.

Stay tuned. Once the weather warms up and I get more fish in there, I'll have a better sense of how things are working. The sand does a great job of retaining moisture, so I feel like it may perform better than my gravel/hydroton system in the heat of the summer.

I'm very interested to follow the progress of your system.  Have you run sand systems before?  I have a reference stating sand is a very good AP medium, yet I do not see many people try.  Are you getting satisfactory results with your timed cycling and stationary night time set-up?
