If you don't separate the sexes, you will have a bunch of small slow growing fish. Just like with Tilapia.
I think that if you control the mating Blue Gill could become a very good Fish

Hey there,
Thanks for the offer but I got 21 blue fingerlings from Larry on Sunday. Yep chop 2 system. Its pretty much done. I just have to wait until the water temp comes up. Yesterday it was 48. Too cold for my lil buddies. They are staying inside. I am cleaning out this 30 gallon tote by hand/net. I am taking some of their fish water out of the tote and replacing it with water from my system. Slowly bringing them into a higher PH environment.
Thanks again for the offer. Cant believe I was saving my money to buy some fish. $90 in shipping plus 2-3 bucks a fish. Glad I found the free fingerling group. Larry told me I will have a 1000 fish if I dont have something to control the population. Blue gill...
That just means I will give away a ton of fish in the free fingerling group. I went to kindergarten. I know how to share :)
Wow, it looks like is going to be a nice system. It looks like a Chop system maybe? Are you still looking for tilapia fingerlings? I may have some I can give you.
