Hi CJ, that is one of our seedling tables.  In that picture, we do start the seedling right in the net pot and when they are at least an 1" tall and preferably 2" tall, we transfer the net pot into the raft.  Sometimes if the seedling is not allowed to become established before going into the system you can lose them to something called dampening off, which is usually a fungal issue.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damping_off  This can sometimes result from not enough air and too much moisture and new seedlings are more susceptible.

Hi Gina got a question, is this the seedling bed, Do you remove the grow media of  this seedling before going to the raft or are plant direct in to it. can you tell me how you go from seedling to grow bed  whit the lettuces. my experience is being bad. Thanks CJ
