also thinking off the top of my head wouldn't it work as well to just wrap that BIO bag around what pipe I have coming into the filter...that way all the water that comes out would hit the BIO material and pool screening ensuring to grab most of the solids....

thanks for explaining it more to me :) a new picture would help...I am thinking of making a nano aquaponics system using some rubbermade totes until i can understand everything and how it works :)

Also...the random bio material...can you name a few for me off the top of your head if its not to much trouble. I seen  a video on youtube where they guy use some scrub pads you use to clean the dishes with for his filter....

Was that comment requesting an explanation :-)   I guess I should take a new picture and show you how it ended up.  The barrel is loaded with old screen from my pool enclosure and the bag of random bio material I put together has worked pretty darn well.  The fish solids are siphoned from my 250 gallon IBC to the bottom of this barrel.  The screen keeps the solids down and there is an overflow near the top of the barrel which flows into my grow bed.  I also keep a fish or two (gold fish or guppy minnows) in here to keep down mosquitoes.  There is also a lid, I don't keep it open/exposed.

Inside the claifier and bio filter.  I loaded the bio filter with things like strawberry containers, plastic sprinkler head tips and a nylon brush head.  I found a local guy that said he has a bunch of bio balls that he is going to give me...once he digs them out.
