Further to my last post, Tillapia are also banned in Australia
Mate Carp are illegal anywhere in Australia. They were introduced in the late 1800's and have ruined our inland water ways. Much like the cane toad, there is very little we can do but kill on sight due to the untold damage sustained by native species and habitat.
where is this that they are illegal?
I know they're very popular in your region Vlad- unfortunately over here, they've been labeled a "trash" fish and invasive species. At the turn of the century they were very popular-especially with the immigrant populations and were spread all over the country via the railroads (the government would give five fish to anyone with a bucket to stock in their local ponds, rivers, streams, etc.). Once they became really invasive and started to spread they were labeled as "trash" and "garbage" fish. It's really a pity because they are wonderful fish for culture.
I think that just about everyone in this country (Serbia) is cooking up Carp today for the traditional Orthodox Christmas Eve dinner! Not only are they legal here, they are the most bought/sold and consumed fish on the market!
Glad to hear that you deem them an excellent fish for AP Nate.
Common carp. I trade them to my Polish friends for favors. :)
They are excellent, excellent fish for AP systems where they are legal. They eat up pretty well too, if you know how to fillet and cook them. They're really good smoked.
What kind of fish are these?
