Blues aren't legal in Cali, wish they were. All tilapia need temps above 70 to grow and resist disease. Blues apparently can survive down to 45, but like Vlad said, they won't be happy. You should be ok with blues in Florida, but I seem to remember TCLynx had trouble keeping them warm enough, and I believe she gave up on them in favor of catfish and bluegill. I think. Prolly should ask her opinion. There's a Florida group on this site, good place to start with local advice. I raise mossies and hornorums for breeding fingerlings here, so I need to keep temps in the mid 80's to keep up production. Lately, that hasn't been happening.

Wil buddy... you nor your "pure blue" talapia probably aren't going to be happy anywhere even near those temps. (45F) Seriously, when you do "go big" think about a different species of fish. Blue-gill, catfish, carp, koi, perch etc...

I did not know that to my understanding the pure blue tilapia are cold water fish down to 45 degree i thought i read that somewhere.

Central Cali, Wil. Not cold like Minnesota, but too cold for tilapia.

I only used the kiddy pool until I set up the fish inside with a commerical fishing vat.

hey jon i agree they are perfect i just got a 1100 gallon above ground pool with small pump for $40 3 ft tall 12 ft wide what more do you need ? lol im using in because the next system starting next week it will use more water in 3 different types of systems so need plenty water for fish ill add pics and keep everyone informed thanks again for the input. One thing what is your insulated foundation is it cause you live in a cold climate??im in florida no need for heat unless im trying to breed

I still use these wading pools. Haven't found anything better yet. I just built a greenhouse with three 6' pools poured into the insulated foundation, with radiant heating underneath. I paid $9 each at kmart, $27 for 1000 gallons of tanks. Deal.

I used one of these when I moved. It served me well through a blazing hot summer. I did worry about animals or lawn mowing damaging it. Neither happened.
