I used a paddle bit (hair too small, had to fix the holes with a dremel), and then placed adapters for three lines in the back of my Aerogarden. I bought the drains and 1/2" tubing (and other necessary parts) from a hydroponic store in Thornton. I sealed the attachments with a glue that's normally used for PVC. Had leaks twice, this process took a couple days (I wanted a complete cure)

time will tell, but I think it is smart to have a backup like that if for no other reason than it will give you and your living room extra piece of mind

I wanted to have an overfill drain. I'm concerned that if a piece of root gets into the normal return then the system will flood my living room. The normal return has a valve on it, and that narrow of a space seems like asking for a flood. The planter isn't directly in line (positionally) to where a leak will drain into the tank. Seemed like a key safety mechanism. You don't think I needed it?

Very cool, Dan. Thanks for sharing! I forwarded this photo to John to entice him into coming over and seeing what you are doing. Why do you need 3 openings? I can see water in through either of the top holes, and out through the lower one, but why the second top hole?
