Christopher,   There is a lighting group where you might want to join and ask questions to learn more about lighting and maybe get some recommendations to help you out.

Dan, you might want to try Liley Fishery in Boulder - http://www.lileyfisheries.com/fish_stocking.html

I am in Southern Maryland, about an hour and a 1/2 south of DC. Anyone selling tilapia fingerlings near by?

I placed an order for 12 yards of 1/2" - 3/4" expanded shale. It is not too late to order a larger quantity. Bastrop Rock will be going to TXI to pick this up this coming week. I counted 9 yards claimed so far. I will post again when it is delivered. Cheers

I think you mean lower.  You can grow advance channel catfish fingerlings, there are plenty of suppliers in your part of the US.  FCR should be around 1.3 once you get good.

We are getting off topic for this forum.  Change of venue?

Just too much hassle. I don't have the time nor the desire to play around with all the beauracracy. If you have any suggestions.  I am looking for a type of fish that grows to about a pound in a 6 - 9 month period. Has a food conversion ratio of about 1.7 or higher. Is herbivorous or omniforous.

Comment by matthew ferrell on March 9, 2012 at 10:28am

It's done, but you will have to go through customs.  I am not sure about the status of this fish on a US level.  It will most likely be too expensive.

Matthew, I may have to order from Australia. I hope they don't get here weak and half of them are dead. Know of any experiences about long distance ordering of fingerlings?

Comment by matthew ferrell on March 9, 2012 at 9:47am

Jim looked it up.  Your good, if you can find them.

Comment by matthew ferrell on March 9, 2012 at 9:42am

Jim, if I remember correctly there are many crawfish species too.  Just want to make sure you don't get popped for something silly.

Comment by Jim Hebert on March 9, 2012 at 9:41am

I think, Mathew, that for Tilapia one needs a permit , some carp species, and peranha (mispelled) are illegal.  haven't

Comment by matthew ferrell on March 9, 2012 at 8:39am

Jim this is shooting from the hip, but check to see if those are legal.  your state is funny on some animals

I am from Louisiana and looking for Silver Perch fingerlings from anyone in the US. Any suppliers or sellers anywhere?

Comment by Darryl Smith on March 2, 2012 at 8:41pm

Thanks for the expanded shale info; I live in Corpus Christi and have been wondering where to purchase bulk expanded shale.

Comment by Martin Ridge on March 2, 2012 at 9:37am

Bastrop stone now has the pricing for the 1/2" - 3/4" expanded shale. 135.00/yd FOB, Bastrop Texas. I am now looking to find interested people in the Texas community interested in expanded shale at this size and price. I will be looking for 3 yards myself. they have 7yd, 12yrd and 26yrd trucks.
