I interested in buying used or inexpensive aquaponic equipment. My greatest challenge is shipping because I live In PR. I also run a spanish speaking aquaponics network and I could help you translate what your selling to spanish because I'm bilingual. If you understand spanish or feel you can take on the challenge of posting an add yourself then here is the link http://acuaponia.tv/page/clasificados
Interested in bullet proof fish for cycling up a new system?
Let me put forward the option of using Mosquito fish instead of "cheap feeder goldfish".
I've been running a small aquarium/demo system for a short time now (just over 2 weeks) and I have moved the system a few times and even left the whole thing (fish included) in the trunk of my car overnight before going to set up for one demo/talk. The little mosquito fish have survived the moves very well and the system is still cycling up. The fish have survived a high ammonia spike in the high pH hard well water I filled the system with. They are currently surviving a high nitrite spike with no salt or water changes so far.
I can recommend them as a good option for system start up if you are worried that you might tend to kill fish.
Only drawback, you have to keep from sucking the little things through the pump or letting them swim into the plumbing. I currently have shade cloth wrapped around the drain on their aquarium since the net pot isn't sufficient to keep the tiny ones from going into the grow bed.
If you are interested, I'll see if I can get some breather bags for shipping them. Otherwise, they are easy enough to transport if you are local enough to come visit.
Contact me to discuss quantity and price.
For anyone in the Orlando / Central Florida Area, I have Blue Tilapia broodstock available (5" and higher). The prices is currently at $5 a fish. This is a great value since the broodstock are already mature enough to start reproducing and multiplying. I am also able to provide sexed out breeding colonies with males and females paired. Please let me know if you are interested or have any questions.
Bill have you looked at the group about heaters on this site
Looking for feed in RAS tilpia and glass eel? any one have ?
Bill,
The store (on this site) sells fish sweaters as well.
Hi All.. . I am located in central PA. and my fish are freezing....any good ideas for a heater system...the aquarium heaters just do not work well....and are costly to run constantly....Also any breeding tips to help me should the tilapia be seperated..how do you tell females from males..THANKS
Vlad & Chris, Thanks, will contact.
@Joshua, I agree with Vlad. You should contact Jon who breeds them in the bay area at http://www.fishnetaquaponics.com/fish.html He can tell you when they are available if they are not already. I believe he has had good success with shipping too if he is currently out of stock.
@Matthew Ferrell. I'll take some trout fingerlings...
If you can ship to Serbia (Smiley inserted with no particular problems) (Yes, that was a reference to Nogas book, and no I'm not being a dick...just my way of saying "how's it hangin' buddy). Hope all is well.
