    Hi Gina,

I don't know if you are a Paisan, but your name certainly is.

I am proud to be a new member of your fine organization. Thank you for making me feel welcome

One of your members in Hilo, Hawaii gave me your website. We will be relocating to Hawaii in several weeks. I was definitely going to start Hydroponics on a commercial basis, but now I am sold on Aquaponics. Supposing someone wanted to raise 1Million lbs. of Tilapia per year. How much Hydroponics would it take to keep the fishponds clean. Is what I am saying possible? I am looking forward to participating in a class as soon as possible to start learning. Please let me know when a seminar, or especially a class is available. I welcome all the advice and information I can get. Thanks again Gina.

    Very sincerely yours,

    John Dattola

    Aloha Gina!

Thanks for adding me as a friend!  I would love to make it out in Sept for the conference and see how awesome Green Acre is.  Are you aware of any volunteer or work-trade opportunities for the conference?  Finances are a continual roadblock for me.

    Thank you for your help

    Hi Gina,

Have heard great things about you from Sylvia. Look forward to meeting you in September

    Hi Gina:

I will certainly look at the website you gave me for the folks in Hawaii. If the training is in Hawaii that would certainly be perfect for me. Before we send our belongings to Hawaii we would like to visit Epcot City and see their display of aquaponics and hydroponics. As soon as our Pod leaves for Hawaii we will be flying to Manila and also Malaysia, so I might not be available for Florida. Please tell me again the date and place in Florida, and if possible we will do our best to be there. I am an Italian-American, that is a Calabrese. Make it a fantastic day,

    John

Thanks Gina for the warm welcome.  Aquaponics is a new idea for me and I'm excited to take this journey.  I hope I shall be ble to share this with my community.

    Once again a big THANKS!

  • Joseph Alecci

Hi Gina, thanks for the warm greetings.

I am brand spankin new to Aquaponics and already a full blown addict.

I look forward to getting to know this community of like-minded individuals.

Please be kind to the newbie!  Like I tell my children, there are no dumb questions.

    Peace and blessings....

  • Joseph Alecci

Sweet!  I feel at home already.

So my plan is to learn the principles on a small scale and then eventually move up to commercial aquaponics.

Besides this wonderful website do you have any other sources of information for the beginner?

    Book suggestions?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Gina.

    Hi Miss Gina:

Thank you for the website for the conference. We would certainly like to attend. I have already contacted Friendly Aquaponics in Hawaii. From their e-mail to me, and their video they seem to be all that their company name implys. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and very giving. It is too bad more don't realize, YOU CANNOT OUTGIVE GOD.

    Have a fantastic day.

    Hello Gina,

Thanks again for welcoming me to the Forum.

I have a first question. Do you know of any AQUAPONICS setup that works with no pump? Here in Panama there are many areas where there is no electricity and people can not afford a solar panel. In such areas such water flow system by gravity could be useful. I would imagine that fresh water (example from a river) would have to come into the fish pond or fish container on a permanent basis and then from the pond directed into the growing beds. This would eliminate a recycling of the same water to be used. This system could work in areas where there is abundance of water available. Concern has to be given that water coming out of the grow beds is properly purified if directed back to a river or other. The other concern I would have just now is that a balance has to have a good balance on the water flow. Then I dont know if the water from a fish pond can be taken from the upper surface or is better to obtain is from the bottom of such pond or tank.

As further comment: We do have already a simple pond with tons of Tilapia. This has been working for years quite well and feeds an entire family in such remote location (with no electricity). They (fish) feed from plants and mosquitos and are seldomly fed with other type of food. They have a continuous flow of water input coming from a river. We are thinking of redirecting the water coming out of this pond to water some grow beds. Are there some ideas or concerns on how to go about for this or other we need to consider?

    Please advise.

    Kind regards.

    Walter

Thanks Gina, for your warm welcome to this group.

As you know, I am the robotics coordinator for Orlando Science School, and we may be contacting you about a field trip to your farm.  I know you run a large commercial farm, we are looking for small sustainable backyard systems as part of our community project for our First Lego League robotics teams.

If you know anyone who is doing small systems, we would love to hear from them.

    Thanks, Marisa

Thank You for the warm welcome. I have 100 blue tilapia fingerlings. I am waiting on my fresh water fishing buddy to bring some pumps and parts to set up 1-2 snap set 552 gal tanks and a 900 gal vinyl pool for a grow tank. I can build on a starter system. I need to make shelf racks for planter garden grow beds. I am on SSI disability and have a very tight budget. I have no aptitude or skill for pipes and plumbing stuff. Pamela

Thanks Gina for your warm welcome.  I look forward to learning and sharing in the future. The following is a site I have frequented and day-dreamed about for a while; it includes aquaponics but is on a commercial scale. All three videos are in one place on this Australian site, which is very handy: http://loveforlife.com.au/content/10/11/23/videos-1-million-pounds-...

Thanks so much for your kind words. I doubt I would think and act the way I do if I wasn't a Treky. Star Trek gave me hope that one day mankind can live in peace, with knowledge instead of money being the driving force behind society (upside-down economics).

I also have to thank Monsanto for stealing my inheritance (family farm), waking me up to the evils of big Ag.

  • Japan Aquaponics - アクアポニックス 日本

Thanks Gina, it is good to be on the site and I hope to get, and contribute many ideas.  I am particularly interested in Aquaponicers in Japan - or those with an interest in Japan... there has to be a few out there right?!
  • Deb Ashlock

    Hi Gina,

Thanks for your welcome to the group. To be honest, my boyfriend is the one who is most interested in seriously pursuing aquaponics . We were perusing your interesting site on my computer and I decided to join:) I do have an interest in the topic however. My ex husband had started a tank in our basement so am remotely familiar with the concept. Fascinating!

    No thank you,

Hopefully I can pick up some pointers when I expand next year, and maybe if its even possible give you some. You have a great setup and seem to have a great facility and plan.

PS. kudos on the kool-aid article.

Thank you Gina! I will try to log in regularly and read (and learn) about aquaponics in my little bit of free time joggling two toddlers! SO excited about this!

Awe...gee..shucks. You make me blush. But seriously. With respect.Nice job!
  • David Rosenstein

I think I set the record for the most tumultuous start up possible. But over the hump now and enjoying the food. Its must be still an immature system, because it has not been as robust as I expected.

  • David Rosenstein

Well its had water and fish in it since April. But I had high pH (8.5), tried to lower for about 6 weeks trying all the tricks, then last resort was peat moss. Which worked great, until the pH tanked to 3.9 over 10 days. I spent the next 2-3 months dealing with false starts, actual starts, then system collapse. Log story short, I learned that it was an unsolvable problem (factoring in time/ money). So I completely drained the system, (neat trick with live fish!), and started over. Within days the problems were relics of history. Now have high levels of nitrates, but also a nitrite spike. I'm planing to write a detailed report. I learned a lot from this, none of which was in any class or manual. Oh and thanks to you, I did not have any issues with paint! :)

    Namaste Gina,

    You are welcome :-)

I am sure that all who visited Green Acres also really enjoyed themselves and witnessed another version of a fantastic commercial Aquaponic setup.

    God bless

    Hi Gina,
I need to change my email address for this newsletter.
Where on the site can I do that.
    Thanks

I'm still a yearling into aquaponics but am persuing it as a career. I will be, hopefully sooner than later, at aquaponic events to come. I am planning to cross some Will Allen style with Eliot Coleman, now add alot of aquaponics. My goal is to raise product through the winter with double greenhouses and large water volumes. The short, story bits of everything I have learned on this site. And who wants to pay for lighting when we are blessed with the sun! Aquaponics for life!!
  • Kay Spring

Hi Gina, I am so impressed with your company....I've visited your website a lot and have watched all your videos. My husband and I are going to schedule a visit to your farm soon. Can't wait to see it in person!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome!  I am very excited to share and learn!  I am obsessed with my Aquaponics garden and am so happy to have found this forum to be a part of!

  • Bradley Seward

It has been growing at a fever pitch for the last 6 months LOL! I was searching for a good AP seminar to attend that he was hosting I don't really know him.  The funny thing is that I used to live in St Thomas for two years and was more focused on alternative energy while there and didn't even know I was in the holy land of AP!

  • Leslie Morgan

Thanks for that warm welcome Gina. As I look around this site, I find it interesting. :)

  • Ricki Linnenkohl

Gina, thank you for your welcome. I appreciate the open sharing of knowledge in the aquaponics community, particularly on this board.

Thank you for welcoming me! From what I can tell from the forums and other posts everyone here seems to positive and excited about aquaponics!

  • AL BASS

Hello. Thanks for the warm welcome. I am studying this whole process and find it very interesting. Unfortunately I will be out of the country for a couple years and will not actually be able to get started till then. I hope to use this time to research and study the whole AQUAPONICS process. When I do get back I will be able to hit the ground running.
  • Mona Miller

I am presently planing to put into opperation the worlds larges aquaponic school in the world set in the tourest town of Branson,Mo. Facebook/branson aquaponics gardens and educational center please contack me at 417-338-2537

  • Chris Carr

Thanks for the welcome. The system featured in your photos is of particular interest of mine as I am currently researching the feasibility of a similar sized operation as an early retirement project. The big twist/challenge however is that it would be implemented in Southern Vietnam. I don't see much discussion of similar topic here (and minimally on other AP forums) so it should make for an interesting thread :) Coming Soon™ I still have some more digging and thinking to do.

  • Ronald Wickline

    Hello Gina,

Thank you for your kind welcome.  I've studied aquaponics for some time now along with my degree in wildlife and fisheries.  I'm retired now and in the planning stages of building a greenhouse for aquaponics. I've tried several different systems in the past and have my plans fairly well in place for my larger scale system.  After eating marron and red claws many years ago in Australia I believe thats what I will raise as I love to eat them and believe after inquiring the local resteraunts that I can easily sale all surplus but I'm not familiar with their specific culture.  So 'm interested in any and all help and knowledge anyone is willing to share with me.   So I'm looking forward to learning your site and meeting many of the members.

    Thanks Dale

  • Michael Stuart Askew

Hi, Gina, Thanks for the acceptance and welcome. I will load a picture when I can get my wife's help as I am  officially a computer idiot. I am looking forward to lots of good reading here on the site. Thanks again, Michael
