Indoor setup complete, I've decided to try a few things differently with this setup.Nothing has been modified as far as the aquarium goes. The lighting and filtration are still in place underneath the GB.This system is modular and sits on top and can be move at any time to a equal sized aquarium. This is a tiered system with the first step being the access to the tank. The second is a hybrid Raft/Media GB separated by a plexiglass insert. The third is a NFT channel filled about a 1/4 of the way with expanded shale. There are overflows in both the GB and NFT pipe as per wife's instructions,LOL.The pump is raised 1/2 way of the bottom to further prevent a worse case scenario and drain my tank killing all my fishies. The Third pic down shows the plexiglass insert in place and can be removed to allow for more flexibility. The fourth pic is a close up of the NFT drain, The media is separated by another plexiglass insert that sits right past the drain. The net pots all have wicks to help draw up the water.

Too hard to work with. Everything we've planted in them either has died or not done well.

Leisa, I'm in the Kerrville area.  What did you not like about the lava rocks? Lava rocks/hydroton combo?
