This is a group for those that want to stay connected with Sahib Aquaponics. Sahib's goal is to be at the forefront of sustainable urban gardening by adopting the latest Aquaponics technologies and growing methods to provide both high quality food and fish, competitively priced, grown locally and grown naturally. Sahib combines the various methods of growing using Aquaponics and the resulting Hybrid systems he creates ensures that there is optimal use of the rich effluent fish water. He recognizes that it is crucial to make use of as much of the solids as possible to grow the maximum possible food in the most economic way and in the least amount of space - which is always at a premium in urban areas.
Sahib's Aquaponics Research Farm uses a hybrid Aquaponics system with deep-water raft culture, media bed, various vertical towers, NFT and recirculating wicking beds. He also combines it all with plants in the ground and waters them with AP water. Complicated yet Sahib explains it all in lay man's terms

4" pipes are not going to provide you with filtration, you will need to design the system with additional filtration if you plan to use 4" pipes to grow your plants.
4" pipes are not big enough to really do flood and drain. If you put media into the pipe itself you will risk major root clogging and overflows.
4" pipes are really only effective for aquaponics as an add on to a system that is already heavily filtered and not really appropriate as the primary growing method.

Hi All,
I built my house with a totally enclosed indoor Arboretum that I was to be for my citrus trees. I am in VA and now want to create an Aquaponics room indoors with 8ea of 4" round X 14 feet long Horizontal fill and drain system. Anyone tried this yet? M fish tank will be in the basement below the Arboretum.

The media selection depends upon how you configure the mini vert towers...you can use dense filter material, rocks, Hydroton, expanded shale, horticubes, coir, wood chips or similar mixture 9add some worm castings or worms), if bottom is closed. Experiment with what you have locally available.
