Patrick,
Hope the fish are doing good and thank you very much for the detailed plan for maintaining my yard.  I think your advice may just save my St. Augustine from an early demise.  It was great meeting your father, Bob and I think it is fantastic that he is starting an aquaponics system!

I've been using 300 watt heaters set at 72 degrees in my 2 IBC tanks and they seem to do the job.  During our last cool snap (don't want to offend those in cold climates by saying cold snap) the temps in the tanks stayed around 68 degrees.  Air temps were around 54 or so.

Most of your heat loss is through the top of the tank.  I cut a piece of blueboard to fit mine and think that helped a lot.  I also stopped the siphon and doubled up on the bubblers. I also did the same with the aquariums that I have on my back porch.

That price is pretty good but most people use tanks larger than 90 gallons. Maybe others could use two or more?

I found this heater on the net FREE SHIPPING total price $8.92 if anyone finds a 300W heater for less let me know!

LAST CALL FOR 2011 - My tilapia breeding is winding down for the winter season but I still have several hundred small fingerlings available if anyone wants some.

I have arranged to give them to Dr. Phillips High Schools' Ag Department (in Orlando) on Friday if I don't get any more request from my fellow Aquapons! Let me hear from you today if you want some and I'll keep however many you want.

Namaste,

Sam
