Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Here is one on NYC that was covered today by CNN

All I know is that I live on a sparse county paved road. My greenhouse is 200 yards from the road.  The black stuff that comes off the greenhouse roof can't be washed off from the painted wood frame. I would really like to see more urban roof top gardens. But I wonder about the air quality.

I'm sure air quality will affect roof top gardens. But roof top gardens will also help improve air quality.

Greenhouses with air intake filters might be a good idea in temperate regions and cleaning the exterior of the greenhouses would probably be necessary to keep light coming in nicely.

I think the benefits of local food still outweigh the drawbacks of what the air might deposit on the plants.
The vertical one I want to build is this one: http://urbangardenmagazine.com/2010/07/build-your-own-aquaponic-min...

There's something about a space-saving living mini-wall that just works for me - plus I can then put my prized produce plants out of reach from my cats. Sphagnum moss also seems like an interesting growing medium.

There are a lot of living wall systems. Lots of hanging hydroponic systems for walls. I think I may have posted some here in the Vertical group or the Flinks link above. Some are really beautiful.
Yup! I like the living walls because I'm an artist and find the stackable ones .. unfixable? As in I, being an artist, feel the need to make things in my home look good as well as function. If I could get over that part, the Vertigro system looks like it'd be pretty easy.

This just happens to be the only living wall I can fit in my apartment without my apartment complex having a fit. Also, I like the fact that it's affordable and customizable. Being one of those crazy DIYers doesn't help, either ;)
