Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Hi all, I guess I should get a discussion going for people to post when they would most like to have the workshop happen.

My place is Near Mount Dora in case you need to look it up on the map to see how long it takes to get there.

Time window, December and see what we can work out from there.

Are weekends best?  (I don't work a "normal" job so for me personally, weekends don't make much difference.)

In that time range

Dec 4/5
Dec 11/12
Dec 18/19

Hum, wish I had figured out how to run a poll on this forum.

I've added an event to the site for this but the dates are still open as I haven't had any comments here yet. Cast your vote (if you know yet.)
Here is a link to the Event but it probably won't show up until approved.
300 gallon Expansion Workshop event

However, this discussion is probably the best place to chat about which weekend we should do this.
Hate to admit but I do have to work a normal job so weekends are my only choice. Nov 6 & 7 are out, 13 th is ok, cat has 9:00 vet appt but after that I'm ok. Will take me 1.5 hrs but will need exact address for gps. Thanksgiving wkend not good.
Sounds like one vote for the 13th/14th
And as we get a date nailed down I will make sure everyone has an address/directions to find the place.
I'm starting to think that pushing a bit later might be needed for me to get some of the materials for the project.
I'm hoping to have a new gravel guard material to test out at the workshop.

At the moment I'm leaning to the Dec 4/5 date though this might mean cooler weather for gravel washing. Might have to lay black hoses out in the sun to warm the water. A dry change of clothing and shoes is recommended for the drive home at the end of the day. (Heck, even in warm or perhaps especially in warm weather that would be recommended.)
Wish I could make it up there in Nov. or Dec. Bad time of year for me. I don't work a normal job either. Wonder if there's a way I can wirelessly attend? LOL.
Hum, I'm not sure if my internet connection is fast enough for streaming video even if some one here could figure out how to manage shooting it. If we have some one very techo with a camera chime in, perhaps we an figure something out.

What time of year would be good for you? We have already had one "Central Florida Aquaponic Tour" so I'm sure there will be more.

I am usually (if things are not too crazy busy for me since I also don't have a normal job) open to giving tours around my systems and answering questions etc when people contact me that they will be in my area.
Ok so time to stir up this discussion again since I'm working on getting the materials and cleaning up the place. (Must re-direct the chickens and ducks to get them out of the way before we have a workshop in the back yard.)

Anyway, Things were so crazy in October that I pushed things to December.

Do we have any votes about which weekend it should be?????

Getting ready for the workshop!
The expansion is gonna happen even if no one shows up so that chance for the workshop will be a one time only.

However, I've got plenty of other ideas for workshops or classes if people are keen.

Anyway, I got some new bins and baskets today for gravel washing. Really hoping I have assistance this time as it's far more fun and goes so much faster with company. Should be able to set up at least 4 gravel washing stations with two swish bins each.
Each station can easily keep two people busy, one person swishing while the other person does gravel supply duty. Additional positions available;
Gravel shoveler
Gravel toter
Grow bed filler (this one is actually kinda fun.)

The educational focus of this workshop is the physical construction, plumbing, and gravel of a system.
The tools, materials and how to use them. Cutting, plumbing and gravel washing with a brief comment on leveling the supports for the grow beds.

Now who has comments on which weekend in December they are most likely to attend. I am currently leaning to the 11/12 weekend, if no one speaks up soon, I'll set that date.
