With a growing number of South African members, I thought that it may be a good idea to start a page dedicated to finding equipment and consumables for aquaponic systems and to share the information with others in the group.

Hi all,
I've just started my first AP system at home and I'm really loving it! In case anybody is based on the East Rand, I've found a local supplier who can provide pretty much any type of PVC pipe fitting, valve and pipe you are looking for - the company is called Astore Keymak and they do over the counter sales direct to the public. I managed to source every part I needed from them in terms of the plumbing on the system.
Hi all
Any other newbies here on the WestRand?
good day ..... it seems to me that this group is not very active in South Africa. i'm located in Pretoria and going around and get info for suppliers is not easy in this city. i think getting your equipment is a personal journey like a journey to Mount Everest. Everybody who want to get their pound out of the slice of cake and equipment become quite expensive. is their anybody that can direct us to get good quality equipment and livestock in Pretoria.
Hi My name is Neil and I'm an addict,
I'm based in Cape Town - Durbanville side
I read about Aquaponics on Wilddogs an adventure Motorcycling community I'm a member of in mid May 2014.
By mid June my system was built and has been cycling for 43 days now. First salads have been eaten. This is what it looks like.
The tank on the end it is a Deep Water Culture tank I am adding, it's not online yet. Need to skollie a bit of pipe from my neighbour, don't want to buy a hole role for just 1m.
My water should be ready for oreochromis mossambicus this weekend
I found a dude that sells the Red ones.
Questions?:
Liners were definitely my back up plan. I know I would definitely make a trip to port mambosa to procure appropriate water containers. It would be more than gracious if you reached out to contacts you have in Kenya to seek out viable options. Harambee USA is still seeking non-profit status in the states, once completed our objective is to facilitate community growth through education on AP both domestically and abroad. AP workshops seem to be few and far between, I'm in the Philadelphia area so my focus is on promoting university awareness of AP. There is a lot of research still to be done in the field.
John, I do not know Kenya well but know some people over there that I could ask (if they are still there). likely IBR will be difficult to locate away from a few large centres. Think you can bargain on timber, pvc pipe and perhaps liner if you are lucky.
The center is located in Nairobi, Kenya we are stateside right now just in the planning stages at this point.
