Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Hi everyone,

Well THAT was fun!  It was great to meet so many people face-to-face and to see our local aquaponics community gelling right before our eyes:  people connecting with each other, learning, having fun...thanks to all who attended.  Special thanks also to Jane, Darcy, Orion, & Joe for showing their systems in addition to mine.  Particular thanks to Jane for (whether she knew it or not) being a great sounding board and go-to person for me in pulling things together for the event.  And I forgot to give him credit when y'all were there yesterday, so I'll do it now:  thanks to Justin (JP) for the help constructing my greenhouse frame.

We had over 40 attend.  Turned out to be manageable (phew!!)

I have a favor to ask:  I only have two pictures from the day, which I'll insert below.  I'd love it if anyone who was on the tour would reply to this message and add your pictures as well.  The way I'm doing it is to click on the Insert Picture icon at the top of the message box (where it says "Add: " followed by 5 icons; the 2nd icon is for inserting pictures).  If someone knows a better way to put pictures on this site, that's OK with me too, just let us know.

Very much looking forward to all the great new upcoming developments in aquaponics around here that I heard about throughout the tour, and looking forward to further contact between us.

The tour was super fun , thanks for putting it together Paul ! I would love to see more pictures,

I forgot my camera . Again thanks for the awesome sunflowers not sure who left them but they are so pretty.

You did a great job Paul, organizing this amazing day.  Thank YOU!!  It was very inspiring!  Now, off to "plumb" OUR totes...

Agreed, huge thanks to Paul and Jane, Darcy, Orion, & Joe for organizing, opening their homes and sharing their systems, that was great! Also Jon Parr for coming all the way out here to network and share his wealth of information- thanks to everybody! This is exciting stuff and I'm looking forward to watching it develop and progress as well.

If anybody wants to share a particularly good find, product, source, feel free. There is also a lot to learn from bad finds, products and sources. I'm sure that all of the above would be appreciated by more than just myself. Also, I was trying but failed to remember the name/source of the material covering Jane's greenhouse and the material Jon was telling us about for troughs... refresher please! thanks again!

Yes, thank you Paul, Jane, Darcy, Orion, and Joe, and all attendees. My son and I had a great time, such a good group of personalities. Rick, I look forward to getting some berry cuttings from you. Joe, your system is inspiring, and for those who missed the Fairfield leg, you guys missed out. Orion, Sac perch fingerlings available this week so stock up on those bsfl's. Paul, if you forward me some emails I'll invite you all to a Santa Cruz AP gig in a couple of weeks. Justin, the material I am using for troughs is called DuraSkrim, and I found it in stock, for the best price by far, and the cheapest shipping (on my doorstep in 2 days) at:

http://www.globalplasticsheeting.com/

Ask for Ken, phone number 866-597-9298 and drop my name, he'll give you a discount.

www.farmtek.com ,  6mil  4 year clear or white greenhouse film , I look for the miss cut or left overs in the steals and deals section.

Jon,

Super to meet you and your son.  It was pretty fun looking over and seeing you surrounded by a circle of people at just about every stop.

I applaud your interest in contacting folks from the tour for your upcoming event in Santa Cruz, but as a matter of policy I'm not going to be forwarding email addresses to you or others.  You cah most of yesterday's tour participants by posting a discussion on this forum, particularly through this group.  I also posted announcements on the fine Backyard Aquaponics forum based in Australia and got a few participants through that.  I also announced the event on one other minor US-based forum but doing so was problematic and to my knowledge, no one responded through that site.

If you post your event announcement here and have people contact you, they can give you their email addresses if you want.  And/or, as you may know, if you and they "Friend" here, you can send 1-to-1 messages to each other.  Failing all that, anyone can leave Comments on another member's page.

I forgot to take pictures of the Sacramento systems but took pictures at Joe's in Fairfield because some people didn't make the drive down. I loved the black lava rock and the elevated grow beds!

Thank you Paul for organizing, everyone for sharing their homes and wealth of information. We look forward to being stop #2 in Fairfield next year!

Hello, We are in Tracy and would be interested in joining you if you decide to do another one of these Backyard "farm" tours. Alas we missed the recent one as I just joined yesterday ;-) Kelly

I am so sorry I couldn't make to the last one and I would love to be part of the next.  I have organized garden tours for various clubs in the past if you need any help.  Since there is so much interest I wonder if we couldn't do it sooner than next year.

Hi Janet,

Another tour soon sounds great, if someone wants to organize it.  Having more ore less organized the 1st tour, last night's introductory AP event, and the pending State Fair exhibit (all of which have been much fun), my own system is suffering from neglect lately and I'm itching to get back to it.  Would be happy to lend some support to anyone who wants to lead the charge on the next tour.  For anyone who is hesitant because you've never done it before: neither had I and it turned out just fine.

And Janet, next tour absolutely has to have your spot as a stop!  Nice system you have there...

Thanks Paul I would love to organize a fall tour if I had a partner.  Anyone feel like they

would like to do it?
