Tilapia Fingerlings in Tampa Area?

Well, I think we're ready for fish.  Does anyone know where I might find blue tilapia fingerlings in the Tampa area?

Also, I know this seems like pretty basic info, but can we put fingerling size fish directly into our IBC?  If not, how big should they be before introducing to the tote?  If yes, how do we best acclimate them to the system (especially if we've picked them up in a cooler)?

They don't always have them, but give Morningstar Fishermen a call in Dade City. Check Craigslist as well

As for acclimation - Best way is to float them in bags until temps match, then put hole in the bag and let it continue to float as the water exchanges. If you are using an ice chest or tote, then jut exchange a cup or two of your water with the water in the tote about every 20-30 minutes.

Remember to run an airstone in your tote during acclimation.

You will lose some, so overstock slightly. By the time they are large your numbers should be fine.

Thanks, Annika, for the fingerlings we picked up last Saturday.  We have only lost two, one of the tiniest and one that appeared to have been injured.  The rest are happily adjusting to their new home!!!
