I am thinking hard about making a fish run to Florida Fish Farm very soon. You can get bream or catfish fingerling for about 0.30cents each. The gas to get them cost more then the fish.
Is anyone in the Gainesville area interested in fish and helping in the cost of the Gas?
They sell Koi, Bass, bream and catfish

I'm perhaps a little more than half way between Gainesville and Center Hill (FL fish Farm)
But we regularly make runs to the fish farm. I currently have catfish fingerlings that have been in quarantine for about 5 weeks and a tank of Bluegill fingerlings that we have had for a few months. I can sell small quantities for those who can't handle getting the minimum order from the fish farms.
And if you wind up making a run to the fish farms but can't find anyone else to go in on the order with it, contact me. I may be able to split an order with you so you don't have to worry about handling more fish that your system is designed for.
I'll probably be going for another 200 catfish fingerlings myself in the next few weeks in any case and probably 200 more mid summer.
Hey Dan, if you pick up about 15 extra for me, I'll drive down your way to pick them up sometime, don't know exactly when.
thanks
I think the minimum order is 100 fingerling or $30.00 , but not sure. However I would not mind getting 1/2 order of cats and 1/2 order of bream. If you have 50 of each I will buy them from you or we can slit an order of each?

The ones I have here on the farm, I've had for a while and I have to charge more per fish ($1 per fish.) I also don't have an oxygen tank so I can't bag them with oxygen. Hence why I will only sell small quantities that people can get home with a cooler and travel aerator. Anyway, getting them from me only makes sense for those people who only need 15-30 fish it makes as much sense to come here and get advanced fingerlings for $1 each rather than having to pay the $35 minimum at FL fish farms.
Last I heard I think the minimum order is $35 and they were charging 35 cents each for the smaller fish.
Anyway Dan, get in touch with FL fish farms and see what they have available and when. If you are going to be making the drip down anyway and want to stop back here on the way, I'd be willing to get 200 catfish and pay you for the gas/mileage from Okahumpka to Center Hill and back up to Yalaha if you feel like swinging over in your travels. I don't really have a good tank to put new bluegill in at the moment and if you can handle a total of 100 fish, you might not "HAVE" to split an order. But if you want to use increased numbers of fish to entice them to talk to you (which sometimes they don't seem to want to be bothered with the small orders) you can use us to bump the numbers up.
OK, I'll call next week . If they are open on Saturday maybe we can shoot for May 18, 2013. If not May 13 or 14 2013. I work from home and am in town that week.
TC = 200 cats
Dan =100 mixed
George = 15 cats ( from my batch)
Last order we got of the smaller catfish, they were putting about 50 per bag/box. The bluegill I've seen them put as many as 200 in a bag/box once but 100 is probably more reasonable.
If getting advanced catfish fingerlings, they put fewer per bag/box (somewhere between 15-25 depending on size.)
So for 300 fish that is likely 6 boxes if you are only getting the smaller fingerlings.
Be sure your vehicle can handle that many of their big tropical fish boxes.
I have a pickup so I can put them in the bed.

Thanks, Dan. That's one heck of a drive from Jax so I appreciate it. I bought 60 cats about 18 months ago but managed to kill them. 15 is more the right number for me. I'm stocking my bluegill from the wild but hope to start a home hatchery soon, as in as soon as I get around to it.
I had not heard of these guys I will give them a call and see what their prices are like. Even if they are a little more expensive the gas savings will add up.
I sent them a message, I was amazed they answered an e-mail (FL fish farms never has in my experience)
However, they didn't answer with any answers to the questions I asked but told me they would have some one contact me, which hasn't happened yet.
Dan have you gotten in touch with FL fish farms yet to find out about availability and scheduling a pickup time? I know it's sometimes difficult to get in touch with anyone there.
You are correct, it is very hard to contact anyone there.
I have not contacted FFF yet, I need to call them first thing in the morning, that's the only time I have been able to talk to someone. My day job has kept me very busy lately.
