Good morning my friends. The new dream for the future of the City of Phoenix passed last night (August 25, 2015). It goes by the mundane name of the General Plan but don’t let the name fool you. It is the document that guides all development in the city for the next 10 years. Essentially, the plan is the dream for the city. Zoning follows the plan and development follows zoning. Also and extremely important, this new plan will not sit on the shelf, but instead is living, SUSTAINABLE interactive, on line and designed for every citizen to be involved in the implementation process.

The plan presents what the citizens of Phoenix today would like to see for tomorrow. Within this context two great things were requested and provided:

1. The Vision and Community Benefits for the great Phoenix of the next ten years are now based on the tenets of the Sustainability Economic, Social and Environmental Triple Bottom Line:

Prosperity, Health and Environment

2. As one of the methods to achieve these benefits and for the first time for Phoenix, a major focus of the document is the creation of HEALTHY FOOD SYSTEMS including GARDENS AND URBAN AGRICULTURE.

Now that the plan is passed, the job is not done however. Now comes the rule making process for each element and this is where YOUR INPUT IS NEEDED. Over the next few months please watch the agendas of your Village Planning Committees for time and dates for when the process will start in your area (each village has one, you can find out all about them on Phoenix.gov).

Great things are about to happen!

Nice example!
Development with sustainability.

Thanks. We tried hard. Not perfect but I think it goes a long way.
