The coolest part of this little adventure is also the most frustrating.   There seems to be an endless amount of stuff to learn/explore.

Does anyone know a solar expert?  I am looking for help setting up a solar system to power the equipment with backup electrical support for when it is dark, etc.

It looks like hooking up deep cycle marine batteries or golf cart batteries is popular but I would feel better having someone experienced in such matters who could help me out so I am looking for recommendations, etc

Then later, perhaps an automatic feeder.

Sigh....the list keeps getting longer and longer...lol

I can help you with the automatic feeder, I'm in the process of building one.  I should have my prototype built by this weekend.  I'll let you know what the estimated price will be and can help you put it together if you want - just let me know.

I have also looked into the solar thing, that is on my bucket list of things to add on.  From what I've read on the solar and what I would use it for (basically for keeping the pump running and air stones going)  You would need enough panels to keep a car battery charged.  So the cost would be the battery, the solar panels, and converter to charge the battery.  Not extremely expensive, and I would suggest buying a solar panel kit that is pre-assembled, unless you really want to do it.

Harbor fright has a decent deal on solar panels  if you watch the ads.  It is not cost effective however.  There is an "off the grid" group here too.
