Preliminary information from Az. Game and Fish on Tilapia

I had a good talk today with G&F. Very friendly, cordial and cooperative.

1. PRELIMINARY INFORMATION SUBJECT TO CHANGE: They are still passing the exact rules across the powers that be for final approval before they can get in writing to me.

2. PRELIMINARY INFORMATION SUBJECT TO CHANGE: For those of you who are just growing. You need to get a stocking permit from G & F. No charge and they will wave the issue that you needed to have gotten your fish from a certified disease free vendor. You should also get your aquaculture license from Dept. of Ag. (Free)

3. PRELIMINARY INFORMATION SUBJECT TO CHANGE: For those of you who are selling fish. You will need to get certified disease free and get your aquaculture license from the Dept of Ag ($100). G & F will be providing me the information on how to get certified shortly.

4. In other words, tilapia folks must now follow the same rules that have been in place for catfish. I will provide the link to these old documents until the new modifications are available.

We discussed that aquaponics IS growing rapidly. I expect that within the next few months there will be a meeting to work out as we did in 1998 how the revitalized Arizona aquaculture (aquaponics is considered aquaculture in Arizona) industry can prosper while protecting our important wildlife. As I learn more I will keep you informed.
