Hello all,

I have question on feeding fish,,  how do you all feed your fingerling (2-3 inch) fish? (have bluegill)  I have been using flake food as I bought  HUGE bag of it last year and just can,,  however I also want to use the 50LB bag of floating pellets I have.  AND seeing how most may not have bulk tropical flake food handy, what does everyone else do

I have crushed it on several occasions only they seemed to ignore most of it as it sank,,  then IF I use it whole they can not eat it before it too sinks..  or at least it looks that way,,,

Every day or so I end up netting out food from the bottom of my tank,,,

So my AP friends what's a guy to do?

I use fry starter 1.5 mm pellets. The fish like it. From the small ones up to the big ones.

Analysis: Min. Protein - 55%, Min. Fat - 15%, Max. Fiber - 2%
Fish Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Fish Oil, Soybean Meal, Blood Meal, Wheat Flour, Cereal Food Fines, Liquid Fish Solubles, Brewers Yeast, Soy Lecithin, Yeast Culture, Vitamin & minerals, Ethoxyquin (preservative)

OK,,  where do you get them from,,   the only fish food localy besides the pet store high price stuff is the catfish floating pellets.

If you soak the pellets for about 20 minutes they become soft, but they still float.  Little ones can bite it, and the big ones will take them whole.  As the larger fish chew they often spit out some particles which the small fish will grab.

Pellets are generally not real high in protein, so fry food is better, but it's also more expensive.

Some fish have to be transitioned from one feed to another. Part of the problem might be that the fish are used to the behavior and taste of the flakes, but not the pellets. When we switched our tilapia from one brand of smaller pellets to another brand of a larger size, it took them quite a while to fully accept the new feed.
