Hello! I've been looking for a 1,000 gallon fish tank and haven't been able to find too many options. Does anyone have any suggestions? It would be great if you have used it yourself and could let me know how it's working out! Thanks so much :)

Too funny you responded Ryan--I just read about how you built your FT on another discussion yesterday! I really like this idea--seems like it's pretty cost effective. Do you think this is viable for a 1,000 gallon tank? We need the top of the tank to be about 4' high in order for our system to be gravity fed. Let me know :) Thank you!!!

Have you considered making a cylindrical tank with the outside circle being made of 20 gauge galvanized steel, then using a pond liner?  Growing Spaces does this with their thermal storage tanks.  See for some pictures.  You would need about 22 feet of 4' high circumference, or about a 7' diameter tank.  If you used 3 sheets, you would get almost 2,000 gallons and about a 9' diameter.

I have these tanks in two greenhouse domes and they work quite well.  My big one is a little over 3,000 gallons made with 4 of the 4'x10' sheets of steel.  If you are interested, I can fill you in on the details to make such a tank work.

Good Luck!

Thank you Jeff! I have looked at this website. Did you buy tanks from here?

No I use IBC tanks. You could daisy chain 3 IBC's together and get the same result plus if in the future you wanted to isolate them (that's what I'd do) you would have that ability. Some growers do that to separate the fish in different stages of growth. When you harvest the one tank it then would become the fingerling tank. With proper plumbing they could still function as one tank for inlet and outlet purposes.

Here is a link to my system using a 900 gal stock tank.

I also found this to be a good source for large tanks. Maybe you can find something there and then search your area for a distributor or source.

Great, thank you Jeff and David!
