Standing Raft Aquaponics?

I was watching this video:

And he is doing aquaponics with the rafts standing up kinda like the China Aquaponics Walls.  

How do you think he is doing this?  

It seems like 2 boards are sandwiched together with some space in the middle and water falls down the middle.  

How do you think he filters the solids and grows the bacteria?

Just like any other aquaponic system, with solids filters and bio filters.

So you think he's running a system like UVI where he gets rid of solids before he pumps up to the rafts?
