I opened the tank this afternoon and discovered a number of new members! Newly born minnows swimming around. Should I leave them in and feed them flake? Or take them out (if I can get them netted) and raise them in a separate tank until they get bigger? The bigger fish are leaving them alone for now and definitely not eating them. Suggestions?

Congratulations Mike!

The big folks will eat them if you leave them in the tank!  You can remove them (best) or put up a safety zone (second best) to give them a fighting chance.  I've seen a couple of milk crates stacked up in the tank work out for some of the smarter fry.

I had added gambusia a couple of weeks ago at the suggestion of a fish expert and my tilapia didn't eat them so I wonder if they will indeed eat these new little guys. I'll put in a milk crate and see if that helps protect them. I also have a number of short pieces of PVC pipe for hiding places and the fish do use those.

her me now and believe me later...

they will eat the babies!
