Just completed two, 4 foot by 8 foot wicking beds. Plan is grow blueberries, strawberries and other acidic loving plants one of the wicking beds.
My question is, has anyone used sphagnum peat moss to lower the ph in a wicking bed? What amount of peat would be used, 50/50 to start or more? The soil dept is 12 inches.
Update in the pH down in a wicking bed. The premium soil started out with a pH just 7. Removed the center of wicking bed soil, approximately 3 foot by 5 foot by 6 inches in depth. Replaced with sphagnum peat moss which did bring the pH to 5.5
Decided to use sphagnum peat moss which did bring the pH to around 5.7. Added a blend of an organic fertilizer for blueberries. Planted three small bushes of blueberries, which should produce berries in a few years.
