Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Hello aquaponic source community;

To start, I live in Cairo, Egypt. We only have one source of water, the Nile River. Therefore, water is scarce and aquaponics seems like an efficient solution to reduce water usage.

Anyways, I decided to build my first A-frame PVC pipe aquaponics system, in order to grow basil, lettuce and other leafy greens, tomatoes, and strawberries. Therefore, I wanted to ask a few questions.

1. What should the diameter of the PVC pipes be? Should they differ depending on the plant?

2. For each plant, what should the net pot size be?

3. What should the distance between the plants be?

Thank you for your time.

1. 4 inch pipe works well. No.
2. I prefer the square 3 inch tall pots, not net pots.
3. 6-8 inches.

https://youtu.be/CdKOOsWsApkwe have a setup using gutter tubes and one with 6" vinyl fence  the gutter tubes have 2inch cups and the 6inch has 4 inch cups . also there is a bucket system going in. unfortunately there all. hydro systems . they all are running water no chems  or grow agents I am trying to convince them into fish. but they all produce healthy beautiful plants and veggies slowly

i use  what is found locally and adapt. i have a micro aqua setup running 1 flood tank with aquatic plants a cucumber and some house plants    and a plastic coffee can with a healthy basil . i pump fish water straight from the tank into the bottom and have 2 drains at the top acting as overflows 15 minutes an hour and its happy. .

the whole thing is setup in the living room with gold fish.

wish i had more space

happy fish farming
