While searching for aeration systems today out in town and getting feedback from the owners of what I may need for our system I got a little overwhelmed by the price, the energy consumption, and the lack of knowledge some of these store owners had on how much air a tank may need.
I am running two 275gallon IBC tanks and wanted to introduce fish to the system in the next few weeks. So I stumbled across this Hydrocyclone video and wanted to know if anyone has tried this and if it works or if it is going to be a waste of my time to try and make it. Let me know if you have any other ideas that I could do. Thanks
Here is the link to the video:

I'm new to aquaponics too, so I can offer you no expertise whatsoever, but it looks like a juiced up swirl filter, looks like hes got a large tank with a large pump to get that flow, I wonder your pump would create the same deep cyclone....dont know, again, I'm just commenting on the video, I'm with you, I really dont know, but I'll be curious to see what people have to say.
Trying a much smaller setup then the video. Gave it a test run and I could see some air bubbles down at the bottom of the tank and I was getting a vortex in the barrel. A good side note is that your water hose is not enough to get a full on vortex but it will provide you with a great way to get soaked as you goof off instead of working lol
