I have not used the product personally, however on their website they do mention the use in hydroponics systems. What kind of media beds were you looking to utilize? Raft? Ebb & Flow?

In a flood and drain situation, I would be concerned that this form of media would end up going down the drain if it tends to float and if the drain guard is not built correctly. In a raft type system, I would think it work well in the proper containers.

Check out their website http://www.grow-tech.com/fleximix.php and the associated PDFs.

I have no personal experience with this grow media, but based on what I've read it sounds like a nice media with organic materials. I personally have a flood & drain system with river rock and pea gravel as my media. The only downside of the rock media is its weight so far.

If you do try out the media, let us know how it works for you! :)

Have a great day!

Alan

The references in the PDF... to water retention raises questions... similar to the use of coco-coir....

Even in a timed F&D system... coir retains so much water as to cause problems with root rot...

I would suspect that this product could do likewise...

It also seems to be very fine... which would suggest that it would either pack down with F&D... clog quickly... and/or possibly even make it's way into pumps etc...

Would probably be fine as a seed starter media...
