Event Description

Do you want to produce more of your own food and become more self-reliant? This full-day class will cover the basics of modern homesteading, whether you live on a one-tenth acre city lot or 40 acres in the middle of nowhere. We will start out talking about what modern homesteading means, and throughout the day we'll cover gardening and orchard basics, backyard poultry, homegrown dairy products, and producing your own meat.

  • Everyone can become more self-reliant on some level. Discover what you can do in your current location to begin producing more of your own food.
  • Learn what types of livestock will work best for your land and your lifestyle.
  • Includes lunch and a copy of Homegrown and Handmade: A Practical Guide to More Self-Reliant Living by Deborah Niemann

Instructor: Deborah Niemann - homesteader, writer, and self-sufficiency expert.

Hi, everyone! Nice to "meet" you all! I'm Deborah and am looking forward to heading out to Colorado in May for the workshop. If you have any questions about me or the workshop, just ask!

A bit too far to go for a course. I'll stay on this side of the pond.

I had the pleasure of attending a three hour lecture by Ms. Niemann a few weeks ago.  She is a good speaker and answered all of the questions throughout the speech as well as stayed afterword to help one of the attendees with an issue she was having with her goats.  I asked her about aquaponics and she mentioned that she would be working with this institution on the subject.  I would love to go but it is long drive from where I live.  If you are able to go though I recommend it.

If it was free I would attend which most information about gardening should be and is in most cases on the interweb. But no I would not spend a dime on a course. People that charge money for that information are trying to make it a business of theirs and gardening, aquaponics etc etc etc is a way of life for most people and should be kept open source. If this course was about anything else not related to human health, gardening, homesteading, off-the-grid then so be it. But people shouldn't be charging for what they may think is information from a authoritative position on the subject to turn a buck. This is information that should be and in most cases already is open source

sounds like the way we are trying to live
I don't see the cost of the course so I am not sure if or how many of us will be coming. We are within 15 miles of you from our hobby farm in Berthoud. :D
