Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

So, here we are, in mid-August and I haven't posted a thing!  There hasn't been much to say since the AP project got put on hold due to work and family demands. I've decided I need to make some changes in my personal life... primarily in my line of work.

I put myself through college (B.S. Geography) working as an engineering technician; it was good work experience and I wouldn't trade that for anything, but I graduated in May and am now working in an asphalt lab... gross. I need to go green.  My mom just died of cancer at 51 and I've got my arms in solvent all day... I feel like a cancer petri dish.  Lol too much information?  I dunno, all I'm trying to say is that I am VERY interested in working in aquaponics.

I definitely know my way around a laboratory, though my chem background is not strong. Though I would love to learn! I am an avid aquarist; I keep several tanks at home and am a hobby breeder.

I just ordered my first batch of tilapia; 10- 1" fish shipped for $25 on aquabid... hopefully their trip isn't too hard.  They are fry from another aquapon.  I plan to grow them out as the breeders for my system. I will probably just keep a pair, ultimately. I have a 6' 100 gallon tank to put them in and their fry will go into the IBC/AP tank.  I have a lot to learn about breeding tilapia still, but will have plenty of time to read up while those small fry grow out!

Yeah, I used to work in soils/geotech, and would go back, given the option.

Asphalt is nasty stuff.
