Rob Tolette replied to Christine's discussion Water level for media beds
"The best way to set up a media bed is to have a dry zone at the top of the media bed that is about 1.5-2".  Any higher, and you will have algae growth, and some of your media might float.  When you plant you seedlings, just make sure…"

Rob Tolette replied to Problematic's discussion Using Aluminum Piping
"Our general rule of thumb is to never use metal components in aquaponic plumbing.  For any parts that will interact with water that fish will live in, use food safe plastic, vinyl tubing, and PVC pipe/fittings."

Rob Tolette replied to Gina Day's discussion Newbie needs help with bell siphon

Rob Tolette replied to Christine's discussion HELP....Fish keep dying!!!
"What kind of fish do you have?  Is your water temp right for them? What is your water source? Are you filtering it? I would try to slowly lower the pH to the low 7's. My best guess is the addition of water after you flooded the sump messed…"

Rob Tolette replied to Christine's discussion HELP!!!! No Nitrates
"Hi Christine, What are your ammonia, nitrite, pH, and temperature readings at?  Did you recently change out a large volume of your water?  This could have damaged your bacteria if the water was untreated. "

Rob Tolette replied to Larry Miller's discussion I didn't know this was a place to advertise your products. I'm out!
"You are correct that we do not allow advertising on this site.  If people want to post that they have spare or used aquaponic supplies, thats fine.  Community sites are about helping each other, and we encourage this collaboration.…"
