I got as high as 93 but I have it down to 80-82 right now and that's without having to add ice any more.

first thing in the morn and my water's up to 90 degrees already.  what's the hottest folks have kept their water with the fish fairing ok?

that's great cuz it might take different avenues to scare birds.  the fans might even work on insect control to some point!

that's cool.  You can do all kinds of things with these sensors - alarms, noises etc.. that's why I like to play around with them.  Even get into basic robotics.  It all comes down to what you want to do.

Matt, if that is a hobby of yours, sure i'd love to have more direction.  a pond guy told me to get a sensor and hook it up to a radio.  i guess it depends on the bird or animal cuz the pigeons in my backyard don't seem to be scared of much.  seems that we'd need more than one sensor for even a small system, one for each side.

here is a link to what I was thinking.  Imagine the motor having ribbons on it when a bird or something triggers the motion sensor.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJfnMMq0Q38

Hey Kim, I'd probably do the wind sock out of all of them, I wouldn't mess with any type of chemical just to be on the safe side.  Since I'm blowing a 12 volt fan on my plants right now putting up the wind sock (or simply just making you're own) would work fine.  The thing I was mentioning was more about my second hobby - using microprocessors and sensors to do automation things, and applying it to my first hobby aquaponics (nice to be able to mingle both hobbies) like adding the water temp sensor to check the water temp over the net, and to also email me when the water gets to warm or cold.

matt, i figured someone who does ponds must have built a motion sensor unit to scare away birds so i looked on amazon.  check this out:

or how about a windsock to blow in the wind made by your fan;

not too much wind in AZ but for $10 a couple reviews said it worked for them.

this stuff got great ratings.  anyone guess how it'd do in AP?  would any chemicals get into the system if it rained?

Hey kim, I never got it implemented, but it would easy to create. It would be a simple cheap motion sensor that could be set up to a cheap motor that would have ribbons or reflective material that would be spun by the motor when the motion sensor gets triggered. Then just place it were the birds would land to scare them off. If you want me to, I'll look into what it would take to create.
