Veterans Teachers Engineers Globalizing Small Systems

Sweet Water has been helping a veterans group and several schools in Chicago and Milwaukee set up small experimental systems, now with help from a start-up USDA grant, engineers, and Milwaukee School of Engineering.  Plan on developing course curricula, credentialing, and distant learning, with a focus on India, the Middle East, and Latin America, then Africa.  On site installation in plans, as well, ideally with trained veterans through our aquaponics community!

Just wanted to share what I have set up in my classroom if you are looking for ideas about how to set up a classroom system.  This one has been operational for about 4 months and is doing fantastic. 40 gallon tank....cement mixing tub from HD and a 2 foot 4 bulb flourescent light.  I have hydroton in the bed.  It is sitting on one of those plastic shelving units.  The extra wide model.  Currently have basil, sweet peas, and swiss chard growing in it with a couple of sweetpotatoes in mason jars. There are about 20 tilapia in the tank that we started off at about 2 inches.  They are ready to transfer over to the big tank at home

I am a former teacher who lives in the Chicago area, just embarking on setting up my own small system in my basement.    I'd like to follow this group, as it's local, and I am interested in observing the development of curriculum materials.  Pretty sweet group idea here, so I thought I'd follow.

I am a vet who would be very interested in setting something like this up in my community. (I am in Texas.) I also work with at-risk youth, and the local food bank, so the potential is staggering--my mind is swimming with ideas! Thanks for the spark!

James. I am very good with hydroponics and aquaponics.I won a grant in venezuela from the government to start a similar idea here but the money was stolen. The officers that were supposed to give it to me took it for themselves  jejeje. Can I help with this idea?
