Hi!

I've been doing a fishless cycle for a month or so now and stopped adding ammonia a couple of weeks ago after my nitrites went way up. Since then I've seen a drop in nitrites and my nitrates are high. However the last amount of ammonia is stuck, it's been around 1.5 for several weeks now. What should I do?

Thanks

Hi Niklas,

What is the Ph? What are your water temps? What are your Nitrite and Nitrate readings? Also can you give some specifications of your AP ratios of GB, FT, Fish, Cycle volume, Cycle time etc.?

Hi Harold

Thank for your reply. I'll try to answer your questions as well as I can.

First of it's a small system, a 75 litre tank with a 40 litre grow bed so the ratios are not perfect (0,5), but I have some sand in the tank which should help right? I'm pumping up water using ebb and flow for 3min every hour and then let it flow back in the pump again. Since I'm using a 400L/H pump and I've calculated using Lennard Wilsons chart that I only need 8L/H so the timing should suffice.

My Nitrites are way up today, over 5mg/l and my ammonia is around 1.5mg/l. I noticed some dead Worms in my fishtank who had gone in with the pump, I'm guessing they might have spiked the tank? (I removed them today). My nitrates are over 100mg/l. No fish yet.

PH 5,8 at 21.6 Celcius. I'm also airating the tank 24/7 with an airstone.

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks / Niklas

Hi Nicklas,

You look as if you're heading in the right direction with the cycling but not with ideal conditions, see this link  http://www.bioconlabs.com/nitribactfacts.html

The sand in the FT is not a good idea. Your PH needs adjusting upward for cycling.
