Hi Jenn. I am going to use duck weed. I saw this guy on you tube and he had just a regular cooler with duck weed growing in it. He said you shouldn't put it in with the fish to grow, because it will take over. I will be getting gold fish soon and some duck weed. I have a barrel just like the blue ones I'm growing plants in, except it's cut the other way. I 'm going to use one for compost and the other half for duck weed. My beds are ready for seeds and plants now. I will put some in tomorrow. Do you think it will be hard to stop feeding all the fish before you pull some out of the water to eat. Won't the other fish that are staying in their pool be mad, lol
I don't have any fish in mine yet. I have to run my system for 2 weeks before I add any. I am probably going with gold fish at first so if anything happens I won't lose more expensive fish. I want to add tilapia after I have a good safe running system. I also have a new friend who lives a few blocks from me I just told her about this. She is going to set up a system also. She is collecting supplies and coming to see mine on Wednesday so she can better understand it.
Hello Jenn. I am in St Louis also. Nice to be friends. I am new to Aquaponics and I love it. I see you have been doing it for a while, cool. I have been talking to other people in my area and they are interested in it also. A couple people are even starting to collect supplies to build their own. I just got my system running pretty good yesterday morning, it felt like it was my birthday, lol. I hope your having fun at it also. A lot of hard work but it is well worth it.
Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community! I hope you find it a fun place to explore aquaponics. There is a real blend of experienced and new aquapons in this community, so please don’t hesitate to get in there and start asking questions. Everyone is quite happy to help out new members – no question is too basic.

Normally Sylvia Bernstein, the community's founder, would be welcoming you, but she is enjoying a well deserved vacation and I am helping out by welcoming new members in her absence. I am certain she would be excited to have you join and she will be looking forward to getting to know you upon her return. Thanks again for joining us, and I too look forward to getting to know you too. See you around the site!
