California Aquaponics

Had the great pleasure of meeting a fellow CA Aquapon, Andy from Santa Barbara. Got me to thinking we shouldn't be left out. There is a Florida and Colorado group so there has to be one from CA. Besides we can share links, ideas and suppliers

http://www.alpinefishery.net/  I got 24 3in catfish, 6 6in bass and 12 bluegill from this guy on monday.  I cant remember his name but he was pretty cool.  He said if you want big fish or frogs go to the asian markets.  Just make sure you tell them you want them alive.

Peter, just noting your "local tour" idea in November.  On another thread there was an idea of doing a community AP.  That is, different people grow different produce and share.  Maybe we can plan a get together at least this year, but plan on a swap meet in a couple of years.  Not sure what I am going to concentrate on for growing yet.

Hi Chi.

I am in San Jose area also. Just started in the fall. Have my fish in aquariums for the winter and will be moving them outside to aquaponics in spring.

Welcome.

We are on the coast. Our temperature rarely reaches freezing. Shasta gets very cold. You can use insulation and/or a climate controller.
Let's keep in touch.

Bay area. Setting up an indoor aquarium to hold 50 fingerlings over the winter. Will migrate to outdoor aquaponics system in spring. Fingerlings due on Wednesday from Tilapia Momma.
@Growitright, what do you do in the winter? I was thinking of doing something up in the Shasta area.
